Happened upon this sweet little town in the middle of nowhere. The bridge was cool but it was the welcome sign that made me feel happy :)
Interesting one lane bridge that you get to through a pleasant countryside drive. My wife does photography and we now have several great pictures of this.
This is a must stop if you are in the Eureka Springs area. It's one of those "last of its kind" things settle in the midst of a picturesque area. It has a wooden deck held together with rivets so for motorcyclists is a bit of an interesting experience to ride on it. Don't miss it; you'll like it.
This is one of those bridges that brings a smile to your face. Very well maintained and a nice drive just outside Eureka Springs.
This was an amazing attraction and one that is not really broadcast as an area attraction near Eureka Springs. It is located on AR 187 in Beaver, Arkansas, north of Eureka Springs. It is 554 ft long and 11 ft wide (one lane). It was built in 1949 and has wooden planks. A must stop!
We were driving down the road looking for this and it sprung up on you. Neat place would have liked to play in the water but Hubby wouldn't stop:) Beautiful drive and great Bridge!!
we went to the bridge. it was a little scary since it a wooden bridge and only one lane but well worth the trip over it. They had it decorated for the fourth of July.
We stumbled upon this wonderful bridge completely by accident. We love to just drive around when we go to Eureka Springs and we were pleasantly surprised to find this little jewel.
A nice gem of a bridge hidden in the Ozarks. Make sure and roll your windows down as you drive across it to really hear the creaking planks that are flexing as you drive them. You can get really great pictures of the bridge from the Beaver side. Truly a unique experience.
We asked the hostess/owner of the Rock Cottage Gardens B&B in Eureka Springs where we might take a short sightseeing trip in the area. She suggested taking Hiway 187 over the dam on Beaver Lak and then take the north leg of 187 which winds around Eureka Springs east to west. As we rounded a curve we were met by a 'One Lane Bridge Ahead' sign. Little did we know it would be several hundred yard long single lane suspension bridge with wood planks as the pavement. It was a serendipitous surprise and a beautiful setting.
We were taking several new riders to the area on a 300+ mile ride on the 2nd of September and one of the first places for them to ride on and see was the little Golden Gate Bridge, which is a wooden bottom, steel framed suspension bridge. It is a interesting experience for someone the first time they ride a car or a motorcycle across a bridge that moves with the weight of traffic. it is fun, and I always look forward to it, and think that everyone should visit this landmark.
Built in 1949, this 554 ft. long suspension bridge spans the beautiful White River a few miles downstream from Beaver Lake and is the last of its kind in Arkansas (only suspension bridge that allows vehicular traffic). Better known as the Little Golden Gate Bridge, this bridge is a must see and a must cross for anyone visiting the Eureka Springs area. Because of a flood in 2008 which damaged the bridge, efforts began to replace the bridge with a new one. Locals and historians spoke up and saved it. When you see it you will know why it's such a special and historic bridge. At 11 feet wide, it's only wide enough for one vehicle, so traffic in the opposite direction must wait until the oncoming traffic finishes crossing the bridge. The frame is steel but the surface is made up of uneven boards that rattle as you cross it. You can actually feel the bridge move up and down as you drive across. The best time of year in my opinion to view the bridge is around July 4th. They dress the bridge up with a red, white, and blue banner and the wildflowers are on full display. The best way to visit this bridge if you are in Eureka Springs is to make a loop of it. I recommend doing this clockwise. Drive roughly 9 miles east on Highway 62 towards Rogers. Turn right on State Highway 187 which is about a mile after crossing the White River. The bridge is about 4.6 miles down this road. After visiting the bridge, continue on Highway 187 for 2.3 miles. Turn right on Highway 23 for about 4 miles to get back to Eureka Springs.
