piney bay recreation area

We camp at Piney Bay every year for Memorial weekend. The bathrooms are always pretty clean. My biggest complaint every year is that the grass is so tall that we are afraid to let our kids play too much. We have to bring our own lawnmower and weedeater every year to clean up our sight so we are not dealing with the tall grass. The people who mow the grass always come during the middle of our weekend when we have all of our camping stuff set up and we have a lot of family visiting us. The will skip over us and not mow around our area most of the time because we already have everthing set up. Last year the kids were no even able to swim because of the bacteria in the water so all they could do was play on the grass which was unmanageable.

My wife and I tent camped at Piney Bay near London, AR and had a great time. I hadn't really heard of Piney Bay until I started doing some digging to find a place to camp that wasn't already full for the upcoming weekend. We usually make last minute decisions to camp and found ourselves pressed to find a place. I guess not a lot of campers know about this place because the first two nights we were there (a Thursday and Friday) no one was even camping in the area that we were in. The campsites are nice with a picnic table and nice fire pit with cooking grate. We had a water spigot nearby and electricity at our site. The only issue we had with the campsites (and this is in general not just at Piney Bay) are that most of the campsites now are set up primarily for campers and RV's. We have a pretty good sized cabin tent and we have trouble finding a decent flat spot to place our tent. We have had this problem before. I've noticed some people just place their tent on the asphalt or hard gravel surface where you would normally park your trailer/RV, but we like to be on the grass. There are nice bathrooms with showers and the lakefront area has plenty of parking and a playground for the kids. All in all we had a nice relaxing few days at Piney Bay.
