This beach is so beautiful! It was not crowded and you can walk so far out into the lagoon. The water was warm and beautiful!
Matira Beach is so beautiful that you have to pinch yourself to check if you are dreaming! It is not a very large beach and lots of people gather here for sunset. The water is crystal clear. It is so pretty that you feel like you are staring at a post card!
We have been staying in Bora Bora for two weeks. As we are staying on the main island we have rented a car and visited Matira Beach on several occasions. It is the only public beach on Bora Bora and it is stunningly gorgeous. When the sun hits the water it is pure bliss. The multiple and varied shades of blue and turquoise are remarkable and stunning. It is like a huge infinity pool. Calm, shallow unless you swim way out and looking back to the shore from out on the water is beyond perfect. It's like a Hollywood film set, only much better and real!We snorkelled the lagoon two days ago as we saw eagle and sting rays while swimming the day before. It was magnificent floating above them and being privileged to see these beautiful and graceful creatures. The beach is fringed with coconut palms and if you walk or swim out from the beach you will see the majestic peaks of Mt Otemanu. So beautiful it brought tears to my eyes.If you go to Bora Bora don't just take photos of Matira Beach. Go walk out a distance and then look back at Heaven in your life time. You are perfectly safe. No nasties but wear coral shoes as the coral can be a little sharp when you walk on it.I will always remember Matira Beach and be grateful for having swam in its beautiful waters. It is a 'must do' experience. Enjoy it.
Bora Bora's best beach has dazzling white coral sand and beautiful clear shallow water. You can wade out some distance from the beach, but there are currents at the reef. The beach isn't shaded. This is a beautiful place.
While staying at the St. Regis, we took the shuttle boat over to Viatape and then a bus to the beach. They were all at no charge. The beach was beautiful, with shallow water you could wade out in for quite a distance. It looked alot like an infinity pool. There were outside showers and a bath house. However, there really wasn't much else. In fact, there were very few people there. The beach itself is a very narrow strip in the area where we were let out. (By the InterContinental) We were not sure if all parts were public or if we were on a hotel property. There are no chairs, umbrellas, etc to use or rent, and no shade where we were. We stayed for a few hours, enjoyed the water and laid on our towels in the sand. We had a nice lunch at one of the restaurants along the beach, very cheap compared to what we had been experiencing, and the food was really good. We had grilled mahi mahi and salads. I don't think we were in the areas other people were describing...later we walked up to the hotel lobby and caught a cab to the main shopping area in Viatape to look around. We caught the bus back to our hotel shuttle boat, and as a bonus and nice end to the day, we saw a beautiful rainbow on the way home, that our boat driver said was rare on the island.
Water was beautiful.....lots of current if you are trying to snorkel. Stay on the paths otherwise you will get covered in little burs....Weekends are busy as all the locals usually are out....lay your towel in a sandy spot under a tree.
I was expecting perfect sand but it was more like large pieces of coral. Still that water was awesome. You can tell its a real local hangout too. There were a lot of teenagers congregating and younger kids making sand sculptures. It was nice to get away from the dog an pony show of the hotels and see real Bora Bora. I will always remember a blazing sun setting behind Maupiti and an almost "glowing" lagoon the colors were indescribable. As we walked up the beach some 30 or 40 Tahitians on paddle boards said Ia Orana. Such warm people in a surreal beautiful place.
Gorgeous beach, the best on the island for swimming I think. Stunning views, even better at sunset. Very deserted in Jan.
The beach was pretty and the water was beautiful. The reef was quite far out and without fins I heard several people say that they were exhausted when getting back to shore. The beach is not very big and their is very little shade available. The major concern was that as we arrived at the beach a woman was loudly warning others that she and her husband had gone out swimming and when they came back to shore they found their bags (with cash, phones, clothes and ship i.d's) had been taken. We spoke with the people around us and agreed to watch each others belongings so we would feel safe going out swimming. It worked but it was not a nice welcome to Bora Bora.
the beach is relatively short, but the water is amazing. warm and clear. the locals are friendly. the water is calm and can snorkel.
