This museum is in a large shed in the industrial section of Goolwa and appears to be a one man show run by the owner of most of the vehicles. The owner was very friendly and spent a bit of time talking to me about some of his cars which he has collected and restored over many years. Not a flash museum but worth a visit to see some rare cars.
The owner of this is a private collector who needed to keep his wife happy and move all his cars out of the family home. So up went a massive shed and in came his cars. It's great value for money and we spent hours there looking, chatting and loving it.
Very Good. Plenty of information from the friendly owner. mixture of classic cars and old cars, even one of the old Goglamobile ' one that was used as a clown vehicle in Tommy Handleys circus.
Visited Michael Finnis' museum with the Chrysler Car Club of SA on a Club run. Michael was very accommodating opening his museum for us by special arrangement. We spent around 2 hours browsing his collection of 40 or so cars covering every era from the 40's to the 70's. Great example of some Chryslers for us to look at including a Drifter and a rare Kingsway station wagon. There's also some great pieces of memorabilia from Michael's career - be sure to read some of it and ask questions as he has some great stories to tell (a copy of a speeding fine in Arizona is a good example).Well worth the small admission charge if you are in the area.
Came across this by accident but so glad I stopped in. The owner has a great collection of cars and is great to chat with. Make sure you stop in here on your way past !
The museum has a great eclectic selection of cars and memorabilia. It really is the brilliant life collection of a long time and very well connected Australian motor industry and motor sport character Michael Finnis. The cars range from the small complex cars (upstairs) to many 1940's/50's/60's & 70's luxury and sports cars. The motor sport memorabilia is superb, with many photos showing Michael with the all the big names. Michael has a great host and very generous with his time. Engage with him and he will share all sorts of tales! Highly recommended, and don't be put off by the rather austere industrial street in Goolwa.
Some good cars, about 30 all up, and some good old photos of racing, speedway and general memoriabilia. The owner has been involved in cars all his life so it's good if you feel like a chat or want to know more about any of the cars.
This is a small but unique collection of cars that because of their uniqueness will entertain the car enthusiast and others for several hours. It is difficult to say which car is the most interesting, from the Valiant chargers to the Allard , and the great collection of Jags. Not to mention the "Al Capone" style Oldsmobile, the Goggomobil Dart and the tiny Honda S600 sports. The explanations are well written and in large print with very good detail. The entry fee is very cheap, The owner is friendly and informative and a great authority on cars . Be prepared to spend two hours and don't miss of all things, the BSA Bantam twostroke motorbike just after the splendid matchbox to car collection just inside!
Wonderful little bits of information attached to the ropes around the cars tell of their background and rarity. Well presented by the owner who really knows his cars and enjoys sharing them with others who want to find out. Small fee is well worth it to see this small but very interesting collection
Stumbled on this place while touring the area and it is off the beaten track and hidden in an industrial area. The owner/operator was a fount of knowledge and as it was a quite day walked around the displays with us and explained/gave a lot of extra interesting history to the displays. Not the National Museum but has a good variance of about 45 cars , all interesting and different and a lot of other memorabilia to look at. The best selling point for a tour was the statement " If you don't like it , I'll refund your entrance fee !" At the end I asked has he ever had to refund and the answer was "No !" Well worth the visit !!
I'm not that enthusiastic when it comes to cars, however, I found this Museum very interesting with the various models. As a member of a car club, it is a great addition to add to our events calendar. The men particularly enjoy it!
