blackhawk springs forest preserve

Blackhawk Springs is accessible from Mulford and Perryville Roads. This 629.9-acre preserve is one of the largest in the Winnebago County Park District. This tract is heavily wooded, and provides a wealth of fishing and hiking activities. A new 2-mile paved recreation trail winds through both woods and prairie.Even though it's paved it goes up and down hills with benches along the path for resting. It follows the Kishwaukee River on the South end. The North path goes through prairie and woods and crosses the Kishwaukee River on an old road bed. Biking, walking, running, jogging... there is plenty of country trails. You can't go wrong to spend a few hours at this park. Bass fishing with waders is great as the Kishwaukee is only about 2-4 feet deep at most locations with rocky/sand bottom.

Wonderful park for a walk! Nature was at it's best. The views were great and it was not too crowded!
