The Lory Theater is full of charm and old-time fun. It has classic theater architecture, a good staff, and the owner rotates movies on a timely basis. I love when they do free showings of older movies and I highly enjoyed the premier night for Guardians of the Galaxy. They also serve my favorite soda, Ski, on tab. Their tickets are very reasonably priced and they are located by many delicious diners for a before or after movie meal.

My wife and I recently visited the Lory Theatre in Highland, Illinois to see the movie The American Sniper. We visited the daytime matinee which was only $5.00. Prior to the movie, the owner paid a tribute to all the veterans in the audience by applause. This was very thoughtful and "classy" on his part. The theatre is reasonably priced and they even have free refills on soda and popcorn. This is a great theatre in that you don't pay for the high prices for tickets and concessions. Highly recommended by this writer.

My mother used to take me to this theater when I was a child... and now I am able to take my daughter who loves this place. Our favorite part is the "live pre-show". The owner's are very involved and we love how welcomed we feel. Definitely has the old school feel I remember, with much better sound and screenplay. Thank you so much for every experience!!

We are getting ready to move out of the area and this theater is one of the many things we will miss. We try to go to a movie at least a couple times per month, as it is very affordable. The theater is so connected to the community. They sponsor many local events and hold fundraisers for various causes. It was remodeled and reopened a few years ago and has been a great addition to this community. Hopefully it will be successful for many years to come!!

Took our family of five to the Lory for the 1st time this evening to see "The Box Trolls". We were greeted warmly by the theater's owners (I recognized their pics from stories online). The lobby is small, you walk maybe 20 ft. from the front door to the concession stand, but the small space is beautiful with a great tin ceiling that is quite stunning and befits the historic building. If you love old architecture you'll notice the curved archways and high ceilings of yesteryear. They have two theaters, one upstairs and one downstairs. They have a large selection of beverages I noticed - not your usual fountain drinks of only Pepsi or Coke products. They had things like fitness drinks, Ski Soda, root beer, and all sorts of stuff. The ticket prices make taking the family out way, way more affordable. My husband is still active duty military for just a few more months so our tickets were $5.50 and the kids were $5.00 - our 2 yr old was free for a 6pm showing. Large candy was $4.00. Just before the movie the ushers came out to introduce the feature presentation. Since we were there to see the Box Trolls the ushers came out dressed in a box (like the trolls) and introduced the movie using British accents just like the characters in the movie. It was just extra charming and made it that much more memorable for the kids. We were warned that the characters of the movie might be frightening to the baby, but she wasn't disturbed and actually fell asleep before any of the action started so we all left as a very happy family.

I had my son's birthday here and he loved it! It was amazing the screen is very clear and the sound cuts through you! I loved the history of the place and my son loved the kid-friendly movies. The snack prices are very cheap and there are free refills on popcorn and soda. We just had so much fun. Thank you!

The staff fun and intertaining, prices and specials are good, the remodel looks fantastic. I love the 'good old days' small town feeling you get when you walk through the door.

Since it was reopened and completely renovated this place is just awesome. Super awesome digital projectors and premium surround sound. Charming decor with artifacts from the cinemas history spread throughout the lobby walls.

Hi Larry B! Thanks for taking the time to review The Lory Theater, we appreciate your kind feedback. Since you mentioned access to the upstairs theater I wanted to put a quick note here about how we handle that situation. It is true that given the age and layout of our building the upstairs is not accessible for those who cannot negotiate stairs. We are always willing to make accommodations if we have some advance notice. Anyone who cannot get upstairs can send us an e-mail at: "contact@lorytheater.com" and we will do our utmost to make arrangements to swap the location of the film in question. There are a few restrictions (opening weekend of a new movie etc.) but it is always our goal to make sure everyone can see the movie they like. Two quick tips to determine which auditorium "your" movie will be showing:1-The newer movie usually plays downstairs first and then moves upstairs later during its run, so don't wait till the second week or it might be upstairs by then. 2- On most of our published showtime charts there is a "D" or "U" next to the time to indicate downstairs or upstairs. I hope my explanation is received in spirit of service that was intended. Thanks again so much for your review

The Lory's renovation was much needed, and the end-result is a first-class experience. The owners and staff are friendly and attentive. Love the prices compared to the megaplexes; and the theatre often hosts movie specials that make it an even better deal. Great popcorn and Excel (Ski) soda at a fair price. What more could anyone ask for?

The new Lory theater continues to delight with first run movies at bargain prices, a friendly staff, great snacks, and excellent facilities. I can hardly wait to go again. In fact, I think I'll go tonight!

The new owners of the Lory have done a great job of renovating and keeping the atmosphere of the old time movie theater. Prices are low, food is great and the old fashioned homey atmosphere can't be beat. This is a great place to bring family, especially children and grandchildren who have never experienced the look and feel of the movie theaters of long ago. I love the fact that we can go and enjoy a movie so close to home and be treated so graciously by such friendly staff and not spend a fortune doing it!!

I've been to this theater many times with my family of four. Always a great experience. I really like how the workers are so welcoming, you certainly don't get that at the mega-theaters. Popcorn is delicious and I highly recommend getting a Ski soda as well!
