this place is no longer here, i wanted to go check it out but i never made it..its a shame. never know what you have till it is gone!
This is not impressive from the road, but when you get inside, you will be pleasantly surprised. The exhibits are very good and the staff is very knowledgeable. This is a "must see" in homosassa.
Love butterflies so sorry this has closed ... we go to this area to visit family and try to snorkel with Manatees if we have the time .. this was a small place but sorry to see it go
We came from Largo, and this was on the list of to-dos, but, alas, it was out of business, apparently. The signs were painted over, and no one ever came to open the doors, even though the hours of operation sign was still up, and the gift shop was still stocked. Oh Well.
When our little grandchildren aged 1-12 come to visit, we always make this butterfly garden a stop. One can only tolerate and afford so much excitement at the theme parks This is a wonderful, calm and educational alternative experience for all of the children. The owners are involved, helpful and patient with their guests. We are treated to a really good movie, an a step by step, hands on guide through the life cycle of everyone's favorite insect. The children love releasing the butterflies in their lovely home, and walking through the garden. We never tire of taking new visitors. Great way to spend an afternoon!!
Our Grandchildren, ages 5-11, enjoyed it very much. The film is very interesting and the whole experience is educational. The best part is releasing butterflies in the garden. The kids loved it.
If you live in the area it is a great little butterfly garden. The owner was very hands on while we were there and took us around and showed all the life cycle of the butterflies. We were there in time to release some butterflies into the garden. Nice side trip for the Homosassa wildlife park.
A feast for the eyes, for avid visitors of butterfly houses. From the moment you enter the driveway you are wisked away by the lovely larger than life paintings of butterflies gracing the facade of the Homosassa Butterfly House. The fully mature plantings from floor to ceiling along with the bench seating area made a visit so worthwhile after spening a glorious morning swimming with manatees in 3 Sisters Springs. After a day of touring the area it was wonderful to relax in the misty forest with numerous colorful butterflies flying everywhere around us. Additionally, the exotic flowers, vines and plantings from every shape, size and color are lovely. The Butterfly house was a delightful treat and so refreshing after a long day. Definitely, this specialty museum is worth a visit when planning a trip to the area.
We had a great time visiting! The 18-minute video presentation was very informative and quality was great for such a small attraction. Never knew I could learn so much in a one hour visit. Butterflies are beautiful, but I definitely have a better appreciation of everything they have to accomplish in such a short amount of time! We enjoyed the tour, but our favorite was the butterfly garden/greenhouse. We were even given 'brand new' butterflies to release in the garden. We did not expect that, but what a treat!! This is definitely a hidden gem. We got some gorgeous pictures in the garden. I absolute recommend visiting!
We almost didn't go in when we pulled up in the parking lot. It wasn't as big as I expected. We decided to go in anyway. There was a very nice lady working but like the other reviewer mentioned there is only one lady working there. We went into the butterfly area which is basically a greenhouse. There were a bunch of butterflies. Kids liked it. Saw a movie that lasted about 20 minutes that was about butterflies. Then the lady gave everyone a butterfly to release. Overall a good time but it was expensive for what it was.
Went to Butterfly Attraction the other day with two young grandsons. The short movie in a nice theater was VERY well done - particularly at a level for children. The lady who walked us through the tour was very knowledgeable, though it was disconcerting that she was allso running the ticket desk and had to run away from us a few times to answer phones or gather up other people wandering around. Many different types of butterflys and an area with lots of them - their habitat, which the kids enjoyed. They particularly liked being given a live butterfly to release in the habitat. It was about an hour's entertainment for the kids, a bit expensive at that - particularly comparing it to Homosassa Wildlife Park (down the road) where you can spend much of a day).
Although I am not really interested in butterflies, this is a good place to visit, especially with children. There are many species there.
My kids absolutely love this place all I can say is WOW great job enjoyed our selves very much. They cant wait to go back and did reports on this place in school.
I had a great time visiting this attraction. There were many families and couples there checking out all the butterflies and all seemed to be having a wonderful time. There is a short video that shows the life cycle of the butterfly in a very nice theater setting and a guided or self guided tour through the building. Once you have done that go out to the gardens and visit the butterflies! There were many of them to be seen, as well as eggs and caterpillars! There is also a small gift shop onsite. Great way to learn about these beautiful creatures!
This is a great experience for young and old alike. there is 'Hands on' and educational displays, a film and then a great garden to view a wonderful variety of winged creatures. Thank you Homosassa Butterfly, we all enjoyed the experience.
