Some nice pieces in a gorgeous environment. Probably the bestplace to see art in the area. Plan to stay for lunch!
Hove enjoyed some excellent speakers over the years and have bought some art from time to time. Some of their artists are excellent.
They have a great collection in a beautiful setting. Features excellent special exhibits and provides various classes using well established and known artists.
Beautiful setting/grounds overlooking mountains. The drive up to the museum is dotted with interesting sculptures Well worth a visit with excellent exhibits.
The Center was a bit hard to find nestled far up into the hills but it was in a great setting. The art museum was very well appointed and the surrounding area was terrific in the autumn.
Only saw outside but some great sculptures and beautiful grounds. There are also hiking trails from there.
Winding road back into the property has several modern sculptures along the way. Intimate gallery spaces but a nice show of a local artist was up and was well done. The house next door was also a show from regional artists and had a wide range of talent and styles. Very worth the trip over there and only a short ride from our hotel in Manchester.
I highly recommend visiting SVAC if you're in Manchester. I've only visited the main house and didn't see the art in the surrounding buildings, so my review is on it alone. They have an always changing selection of art on display that is done by local artists. It's a gorgeous gallery in a historic property, and it is free (although they do accept, and I recommend, donations). The drive along the winding road with art in the fields that takes you to property is nice and unexpected. I loved the center so much that I've actually booked it for my wedding in December.
Getting there up their winding road is a treat in itself with sculpture lining the way. Terrific museum with special exhibits, a restaurant and plenty of parking. Best of all is when the Manchester Music Festival is being held. (All summer). They have wonderful artists performing everything fromJazz to Opera and all in between. A do not miss attraction when in the area.
Went to this place to attend a live performance of Canadian Brass at the theater at Southern Vermont Arts Center which is located on Mt. Equinox. The drive to the venue was lined with HUGE sculpture - very unique and well worth the trip. Was glad that there were no cars behind us along the serpentine road which allowed us the opportunity to take pictures. Much more very interesting sculpture at the destination. We arrived for an evening performance so didn't get to go inside the museum but plan to return. In fact, we did go back the following weekend, just to share the sculpture with a friend who also had never seen it before. It's that good and the setting is just beautiful!
We visited the Southern Vermont Arts Centre to take in the outdoor sculptures and were blown away by the sight of huge art installations in the middle of beautiful meadowland, surrounded by towering mountains. Breathtaking! The art exhibitions indoors of local Vermont artists and their depictions of Vermont are worth an afternoon - you appreciate the artists' perspective of the landscapes around you. We walked along the Boswell botany trail, a short simple trail that is overgrown with weeds and needs a bit of maintenance. The information presented was simple, great for kids. This center appears to be a great community resource, one that offers a lot of educational experiences for adults and kids alike.
Fantastic setting half-way up Mt. Equinox. Great job of incorporating community. From performances (dance, classical guitar etc) to sculptures to paintings this center has more than you would expect for any small town in Vermont.
Nice small art museum, with interesting sculptures on the grounds. Worth a stop if you have time. People there are very pleasant
We went here during the winter so the only thing open was the art gallery. We spent a bit of time talking with the person there, and that was nice. Then we saw an exhibit of local artists. It was too snowy to walk outside and see all the sculptures. Maybe on another visit.
SVAC always has interesting artists on display in the new building with the more traditional/long-term showings on display in the original (period) building. The new building is fantastic and supplies the perfect backdrop for shows. The grounds and lane approaching the center are worth the trip on their own merit. If you're in the area, we highly recommend spending some time here.
