Your experience in Lakeside will depend on the season and the company you choose. What you can depend on is a quiet, safe and lovely setting where you feel like you have stepped back in time to a simpler era. If you visit between June 20 and Labor Day you will encounter a gate fee, a town filled with kids, bikes and families plus lots of activities. Don't let that stop you. The gate fee offers access to many educational, recreational and entertaining activities for all ages. Access the calendar at www.Lakesideohio.com to plan the best time to visit. The Tour of Homes and Arts and Crafts show in late July have become one of my most favorite times for a visit in the peak season. The spring and fall seasons are especially nice times to visit without the gate fee. I bring a group here for a women's retreat each year in May. I also attend a lovely watercolor painting workshop in Lakeside each September. My friends and I love hanging out by Lake Erie, walking through the historic town and shopping for mementos at the quaint shops. Idlewyld B&B is an affordable no-frills recommendation as a great place to stay. Their hot, home-cooked breakfasts each morning are outstanding. Lakeside is a great place to go if you are writing a book, want to connect with special friends or just need a place to clear your mind for a day or so. I always return home feeling recharged.

Went to see a band doing the Grass roots songs. Was a good performance.Had the chance to talk to the band members after the performance.Had a great time there, pleasant old theater, no air conditioning though but lots of windows...

For the price you pay for gate fees and rental houses it is just way over priced. I can't believe there is no pool for swimming except for the babies. I agree it's safe but not an affordable vacation at all.

We love to visit Lakeside and stay at least two times a year and sometimes pop up for a weekend throughout the year. Yes, there are gate fees during the summer season, but there is so much to do and enjoy that it is well worth it. From Patio Shop donuts in the morning to Sloopy's pizza at night, you can expect to gain a little, but save your waistline and your wallet and go for a walk in this beautiful Chautauqua. The kids will enjoy swimming in the lake, playing in the sand or in the new splash pad. My son is 8 and thought the splash pad was tons of fun. There is a nice playground for the kids and free shuffleboard and horseshoes (basketball and volleyball) for a fee there is also miniature golf and a movie theatre. Everything is very quaint and peaceful. Hard to find WiFi - but then again, you are on vacation - so relax and enjoy it - work and life can wait.

Lakeside is the most charming lake community. It's called "Ohio's Most Beautiful Mile" Beautiful gardens. Lots of community activities for young people. Swimming off the pier in Lake Erie. A new splash park for the under 12 group. If you are looking for peace, rest and relaxation, getting back to family values and family connections this is the place.

This is my favorite place on earth. People say its like stepping into Mayberry. This is where I go to fill my soul. Everyone is kind, this place is pristine, clean, beautiful gardens, cute cottages, lectures, swimming beach, put put, shuffleboard courts, tennis courts with free kids lessons, sailing lessons, picnic in the park, playgrounds,nightly concerts, patio donuts, yoga, worship services, classes of all kinds, there is something for everyone. One of the best things is that it is smoke free. So much to do that is included in your gate fee. Some say its pricey, but I feel that it is well worth it. My 8 and 9 year old love it too. We have rented several cottages, and have had good success, good stays.
