seafarers' park

Hammond is the northernmost town on the very northernmost point of the state of Oregon (Point Adams). The park has a viewpoint accessible by car that enables mobility-impaired persons to view the tumultuous entry of the mighty Columbia into the vast Pacific. There is also a memorial plaque to the crew of a Coast Guard motor lifeboat who lost their lives in service to mariners. Years ago we sailed Erik Klepp's fishing boat out of Hammond, chasing the elusive Chinook salmon. This was the end of our family history tour down the Columbia, and the beginning of our tour down the Oregon coast.
