At first we stopped at Rubino Winery, apparently a sister winery to Ruby Hill, but it seemed chilly inside for a nice February day. Maybe it was the attitude, trying to be upscale Italian. When we balked at Sangiovese and Chardonnay, our least favorite wines, they suggested we try Ruby Hill, which had a more French-style feel. We were so glad we did! Warmer, sunnier, friendlier, and good wine. The real test of a winery is when you return home and open a bottle you bought and find out just how badly you were caught up in the moment. The 2012 Reserve Cabernet we bought there was even better than we remembered, and improved our estimation of Livermore Valley wine. Worth a visit.
My boyfriend and I took the Trip Advisor reviews and decided to try Ruby Hill. Extremely nice staff, and a beautiful tasting room full of fun decor for any wine lovers home. We decided to try 2 different sets of tasting. The wine was light for my taste and a little on the sweeter side. I would have preferred some variation, as opposed to the usual Chardonnay, Cab, etc; especially if charging for a tasting fee. Nonetheless, it was a quaint spot.
We visited a wedding at Ruby Hill Winery and had a wonderful time. The staff was great, wine tasty, celebration amazing and the overall experience was fantastic. Highly recommend Ruby Hill for events or a day of wine tasting.
Large tasting room, public potty, beautiful grounds and lots of wine knick knacks to take home too.I am not going to tell you which wines to buy because we all like different ones. But we did by some of the Sangiovese and Barbera. They do mail to most states. The tasting serving is more than a sip, so if you get one flight and a friend gets another you can share your taste for a bonus! We tried probably more wines than were on each of the flights. I understand there is a cost for tasting here. $5-$10 is what the website says. My sister is a member and we got to fly by that expense. So I think that may have had something to do with his willingness to pour a few we asked for and repour a couple we had decided to buy. They have an area for private wine tastings. Great for a party of any kind. But we had 8+ in our group and we all had a spot at the counter and we all got great explanations of each of the wines we were tasting. The wines here are quite reasonably priced, HUGE selection - even some port and sparkling wines - and the parking is easy on and off the main winery tour road.I would definitely recommend it for a large group because they had such a nice selection of wines for any taste in the tasting room. Some wineries have only 4 or 5. Here we tried: Sparkling, Pinot Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Grapeful White, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and a few from the reserve collection as well.
Just gorgeous! And the wine was good too...learned a lot about the history of the area's wineries and about Pinot grigios grapes. Fun merchandise for sale....if we lived in the area, I could see us becoming members. Thanks Brian!
We went here for a wine tasting. Not only do they have great wines but the staff are fun to talk with and very knowledgeable about the wines and the area. They also have cheese and crackers for purchase so we could enjoy them with a glass of our favorite wine.
We were here yesterday for a Masquerade event and it was a fantastic venue. Beautiful with old oak wine barrels lining the walls, hanging chandeliers and a fantastic view. There is nothing more that you could ask to host an amazing event. I would fully recommend this to anybody in the Bay Area looking for a wedding destination.
The owners of this winery are friends of friends and frankly, I wasn't expecting much. Much to my surprise, this winery has been in operation since the 1880's. It's quite the operation. We were offered a tour of the vineyard, we saw where the wine was stored and had a wine tasting. I recommend the Grateful Red. Well worth the visit. A busy place, but everyone was very, very nice.
We have been members here for nearly 4 years and have really enjoyed the experience. The wines are very good, the staff friendly and helpful, and the grounds are beautiful. We enjoy the informal events like pizza and s'more nights and the release parties are a lot of fun. They are so easy to get to we often just drive out on the weekend and stop in, usually with friends. It's no longer a small winery, but they haven't lost how to treat customers and make you feel welcome.
Visited Ruby Hill while in the SF area for business. Not too far of a drive for a half day excursion. Not a wine expert but wanted to do some wine tasting while in Cali. Ruby Hill was recommend by the folks at Concannon which I visited first. The tasting at Ruby Hill was a nice experience. The gentleman that helped us was very friendly and knowledgeable. After the tasting we sat on their patio and had a glass of our favorite. Overall a great experinced and I would recommend visiting Ruby Hill. Their 2007 Zin was outstanding, took a bottle home to my pastor.
From the grand driveway to the landscaping this place is top notch! I was here for a wedding in October while the vines were golden and red .The ceremony was in the palm event center barrel room and the reception hall was transformed into a glorious glamour spot! The staff provided outstanding service from start to finish. The food was wonderful as well. We were lucky enough to have a harvest moon rising over the vines during cocktail hour
First time at Ruby Hill Winery. We have been celebrating a family wedding. From the beginning til the end everything was well organised. The wine and food were excellent.Especially the backyard for the ceremony was splendid.
Great wine and the scenery just stunning and beautiful. I come here every year to visit here and enjoy the wine and the experience..
I'm partial to their reds. They do very good Italian varietals. Their events are nice, and I highly recommend becoming a GEM society member if you live in the area.
In Cali for a training and just happen to find this winery. Well, what a great find. Really beautiful winery with friendly sommeliers. The Pinot Noir was amazing.
