Love to visit historical gravesite. This is special. Interesting information provided and area beautifully cared for.
If you are interested in Revolutionary History, the Swamp Fox is one of the most interesting figures of the Revolutionary War. On my earlier trip to Florida, I found that there was a gravesite where he was buried. However, it is hard to find. I was aman on a mission in July 2013. On my way to Savannah by way of Myrtle Beach, I decided to go find this shrine to Francis Marion. Leaving Myrtle Beach, take Rt378 west to Lake City, pick up RT 52 south, RT 35 west (turn right off up RT52), this road will meet RT 45. You will need to go through Pineville for a several miles, but there will be markers at the state park indicating you have reached the gravesite. Drive down the narrow road through the South Carolina scrub dotted with tall pines. No nearby houses or farms are around...as one reviewer said in their review-it looks the way it did a long time ago. The site is clean and well maintained with information signs to tell about Francis Marion. It was great to go and see an American Legend! It certainly a long way from everything else...if you are a history buff..take ride down to Pineville, SC! The scenery along the way is quite pretty...you can see the 'real' South Carolina
The cemetery at Belle isle Plantation contains the Grave of SC Revolutionary War Hero Francis Marion. Yes, this place is out in the middle of nowhere. Great site for history buffs to pay respect to a history legend. Nothing remains of the plantation, but the drive to the grave makes you wonder what it looked like in its glory days. The grave site is clean and maintained by the SC Parks. A couple of info signs are located on the ground to give brief background on Marion.
