The tour at Bear Wallow Distillery is well worth the cost and time. The owner shared a lot of history of distilling in the U.S. My husband especially enjoyed the rye whiskey.
If you are interested in moonshine, this is the place for you. I stopped by here to buy a gift for a family friend. I got him a bottle of 120-proof whiskey. We were going to purchase some apple pie moonshine, but it is out of season. They said to come back in the spring.I think it is a husband & wife who operate it. They are very friendly & personable. They will chit chat and fill you in on the history. I don't drink, but if you do, you'll be amazed by the variety & selection.
Great true to form corn whiskey moonshine as well as more traditional blends. Amazingly informative and did I mention moonshine? Waaaaay better then that stuff they sell in the liquore store and the family is so nice and accommodating.
We discovered Bear Wallow on our way into Nashville. I loved the interior of the small showroom/tasting bar. With the raw wood and nice bar counters, it felt like stepping back in time. The lady (co-owner/wife I assume) who offered tastes of the different spirits was friendly and eager to share her knowledge. The owner was also very happy to answer any questions from my dad. My mom and I aren't big fans of moonshine, but we had fun tasting. A must-try treat is the salted bourbon caramels. They are made by a different company, but go perfectly with the products offered here. They also sell fancy non-alcoholic syrups and flavorings.
We found Bear Wallow Distillery on Old 46 outside Gnaw Bone. It is a gem... The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful. It was a fun experience tasting the Moonshine and Bourbon. The setting is quite charming and you get to see the distillery in action. It is a small personal distillery...one all would enjoy. If you aren't a bourbon drinker...there is a bloody mary mix and cocktail mixes that you find only here. We found it a great place to buy Christmas gifts.
My family and I enjoyed this place a lot. Very welcoming and friendly atmosphere. They were very explanatory with their drinks. We tried three types of moonshine and a fantasy Bloody Mary mix. They even have syrups, etc.
You will be amazed at the moonshine & whiskey. Their moonshine slushy drinks had everyone talking. The owners were so nice and accommodating too. Great family and a must try!
Bear Wallow just opened recently in Nashville, Indiana and is still working to get all of their products out on shelves. They had a $5 tour of the distillery that went through the history of moonshine/whiskey in the region, discussed the hows of distillation, and the hows of the business. There was a tasting of their three different moonshines after the tour that was covered by the tour cost. My fiance and I had the $5 ginger moonshine shake-up and it was super good. I don't like whiskey at all but the tour was super awesome and the tasting was fun! Definitely a cool place to go in the area that isn't far from downtown Nashville and doesn't take too long. Would definitely go back again with friends.
