Thank you mr gibson!!!!!!! My kids still see the picture you took of our family and say that that was the best vacation ever. Ricky and terri Bednar.
Rob and his staff were, AMAZING! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and professional in all aspects of the process. Stepping into the studio is like stepping back in time! Professionally done photographs line all of the walls and the clothing available is plentiful in size, quantity, and variety! My fiance's eyes are very blue and turned out almost white in the tintype, save for her pupils! Rob said we should come back for a Vampire/Steampunk type picture and we certainly plan to later in the year! Highly recommended! Makes an excellent Valentine's Day gift or anniversary gift!
I walked into Gibson and they were able to photograph me without an appointment (unlike the Victorian Studio). I noticed they had photographed a lot of celebrities and used the exact same photo process from the 1860's. They were very friendly, informative, and my photo was STUNNING! Worth every penny and I will definitely come back. I highly recommend taking a photograph with them during your visit, it is incredible.
Great experience! My husband, daughter, son and I, along with my parents visited this gallery on a whim while in Gettysburg for my daughter's 16th birthday. I have always wanted to have our pictures taken in period dress. THIS was WONDERFUL!! The clothes fit (I am a size 14/16) and we looked GREAT! Rob was VERY informative and let us watch the whole process of the photograph, from the preparation of the tin plate to the development of the tin. The camera he uses is period for the civil war. I honestly would do this again and again. Highly recommend going in, if not to have a picture taken, look at the pictures that Rob has taken in the past. See if you can find any famous people!
Pictures done by an expert who happens to provide a service at a very affordable price. Whether you are rich and famous or not, Mr. Gibson will turn the clock back and have you looking very 1860ish in a matter of seconds.
As a professional photographer of children and families, this was MY vacation highlight. Not only do I have an amazing image of my sons, but we were all privy to the entire process. Mr. Gibson explained everything he was doing from plate preparation and posing to exposure and the magic of development. Keeping the attention of three boys ages 5,7 and 8 is tough to do, but they were so riveted by the process that they have already asked to go back. Thank you for the beautiful photo, memory and history lesson!
Quirky, authentic photo studio uses tintype method with 1860s camera to create a memorable experience in Gettysburg. Unlike many tourist traps, this studio is for real. Rob is truly a master in his field. A group of 8 business associates were impressed by the history and realism in our experience. I would say it was the highlight of our trip to Gettysburg. Do it!
Rob Gibson is perhaps the best wet-plate photographer around. His knowledge of the photographers, photography style, and the art in general is unsurpassed. Combined with great customer service, an authentic studio with an authentic wardrobe, a trip to Gibson's Photographic Studio tops off any trip to Gettysburg. This is not your tourist photo, where a normal picture is tinted to look old - this is a real glass plate/tintype photo taken with original cameras using the same techniques. No modern shortcuts. A great souvenir that far surpasses any coffee mug or t-shirt.
If you want to experience what was like to take pictures back in the days using the authentic 1800's camara and wearing the clothes they wore - this is the place to go! They really take care of you by dressing you up and telling you fantastic stories about the civil war and it's different characters. They also show you how they develop these pictures right after you take them which is an amazing process. I was so impressed by the place, their hospitality, the whole experience. Definitely going back soon! The pictures came out beautiful !!
The man is a expert and has all the period clothing for your civil war photo . He did photos of the stars from Gettysburg the movie he has pictures on the wall my wife's favorite Sam Elliot.
This was the coolest thing we did during our visit to Gettysburg! Dee and R.J were fantastic and made it a full experience. We loved their attention to detail, skill, and efforts to not only photograph us, but also to educate us on the process of using civil war era cameras and developing methods. It was well worth every penny and way better than the digital studios in town!
This was just a riot. My girls thought this was the best thing we did in Gettysburg. I was shocked when our image started appearing...it was just so amazing. The whole process from start to finish was just great! We've done the dress-up saloon pictures in Jackson Hole and this was nothing like that--this was real. Highly recommend doing this.
I have been traveling to Gettysburg for over 20 years now, and although my week's schedule is usually packed to the hilt with park ranger programs, battlewalks, and campfires, I have always wanted to get an "old time" photo in the place that I love so much. While planning my yearly trip this summer, I came across an excellent article about Mr. Gibson and his truly authentic civil war photography. As promised, Mr. Gibson shows you every single step of the process of creating an actual civil war era tin type and CDV. As he calls it, it is the closest you will ever come to traveling back in time. I loved it, and I love my pictures. Hauntingly, my first thought when I gazed into my transported 1862 self was that I was staring at my great grandmother, not myself. It was wild! I highly recommend to those who love Gettysburg and love the Civil War--go see Mr. Gibson! He is the Matthew Brady of our Time.
Mr. Gibson and his wife (and their pooch), are fantastic people! I had my photo taken today in his studio and I'm still admiring the masterpiece. Im not vain, however I am a woman whom disguised myself as a union soldier for the photo, and cannot get over how well he and his wife pulled off the convincing picture. In fact, it was done so well I tricked my own father into thinking the man in the picture (me, his daughter) was a relative to our family. If you are looking for a truly unique photo experience R. J. Gibson is the place to go.Some advice would be to prepare yourself for the price tag. It is $85 for your tin type. Be advised that you will have to hold completely still for 17 seconds while the tin exposes.Do not... I repeat do NOT compare this experience with old tyme photo. It would be like comparing McDonald's to a 5 star restaurant. The costumes are legitimate, not aprons you would tie around your back. You also will experience him developing your tin type which is a whole other adventure!Looking forward to coming back in a week or so to do this again with my husband... except as a woman this time :)5 stars!
What a wonderful experience! I had read online about Rob and decided to go in for a photo. I made a reservation for later in the day, although they do take walk ins. I truly felt like the Belle of the Ball in this studio. His wife and mother-in-law were extremely friendly and helpful with getting me ready for the photo. Being a history teacher, I wanted to learn about the process and Rob spent almost an hour going through everything and showing me how they did photographs in the 1860's (the same way he does today, with an authentic 1863 camera). Not only did I come away with a beautiful wet plate photo, I came away with tons of knowledge regarding the photo process of the 1860's! By far one of the most memorable things I have done! Thanks Rob!!
