This was a great little zoo! We stopped in the week of Christmas and they happened to have Christmas with Santa, we skipped it due to the prices for breakfast. But went on a tour of the zoo. It was a chilly day and not many sightseers! Loved the juguar as he seemed very friendly wanting to play with my kids. The park had a nice little train that circled the outsides. Loved the black swans and the monkeys. The entry prices of $5 was perfect! Highly recommend this zoo if you are in Hattiesburg!
I have lived in Hattiesburg for 40 years. When I first came, the zoo was a rather sad place. The animals were in cages, and I don't remember any natural habitats. As many things have changed in Hattiesburg, so they have at the zoo. There have been many, many changes throughout the zoo, and it does not even resemble the old place. There are numerous natural habitats now, with a lot more emphasis on educating the zoo visitor. Each change that has been made has been positive, and it is now a fun place to include whether adults or children are looking for a nice and inexpensive attraction.
Great place to enjoy seasonable weather. Animals are somewhat limited. There is a train that circles the zoo you can ride and a carousel as well
The Hattiesburg Zoo is great zoo, given its size and the size of the city. I only rated it as average because I've been to some world-class zoological parks, and, quite simply, this zoo can't compare. That said, one shouldn't compare it to those, but since this site is aimed at travelers, I felt this rating was more appropriate. There aren't any animals that I consider "headliners" here. There aren't gorillas, elephants, (and I don't think any giraffes). There are zebra, antelope, small monkeys, and birds. The zoo is known for its tigers, and there is a nice tiger habitat. The zoo also features a short train ride and a carousel. Let's face it, what children don't like trains and carousels? In short, it's a good, inexpensive place to spend an hour or two on an afternoon.
This isn't a huge zoo, but it is bigger than what you would typically find in other similar sized cities. The animals are well cared for as well. I've been coming here for 20 years now and have enjoyed watching the zoo grow through the years.
This is a nice zoo with a pretty atmosphere. Everything is nice and clean.....very well kept. There is a nice selection of animals and they seem happy. This is a small zoo but worth going to visit!
The Hattiesburg Zoo has never looked better since the Hattiesburg Convention Center took over....No doubt they have committed to making the zoo a regional tourist attraction. This is not a large zoo but a very nice zoo. They are constantly finding ways to fund and make the zoo better.
I guess I am spoiled with bigger city zoos like Chicago's Brookfield, San Diego and even Kansas City. There are not a lot of animals but there are nice misting stations, (good for keeping heat down) and a carousel and little train which circles around the outside. OK for younger kids and to spend about an hour there. They do have a nice gift shop and I understand special programs for kids.
Had a wonderful time at zoo boo. Very family friendly. Lots of things to do and see. Animals are well kept and look very happy!
I read that review about Boo zoo being a waste of time. I strongly disagree. It is geared towered small children. We took my now grown kids when they were little, and now my grandchildren (various ages, various years). There are many different games, not just bean bag toss. That guy must have only stayed in one area of the park. They have face painting, scavenger hunt, ring toss, jumpy house, bingo.... the list goes on. They decorate the park for the Halloween celebration. The train ride is AWESOME! I hope they keep the chain saw at the end (my favorite). You can't beat this event for the small fee they charge!
We went to the Halloween Zoo Boo. This was the biggest rip off I have ever been to. You had to stand in line for the kids to get candy at different booths. It was like the old school games. Through a bean bag through a hole or fish over the sheet. There was about 6 different/same games. They were throw the bean bag through the hole. The only difference was different shaped boards to throw them through. You stood in line for ten minuites to get 1 single piece of candy. Do not waste your time with this. We certainly will not ever go again.
I lived in hattiesburg for several years and soent many afternoons at the zoo. My favorites were the vietnamese pig: buddybuddy pigpig and the tapir.
it was a cute little zoo, nothing amazing about it. the staff was very friendly and informative though. i would go again if my daughter wanted to.
For the past 13 years, I have been bringing my grandchildren to the Hattiesburg Zoo. Over this period of time, the zoo has made some amazing changes--for the better. The Zoo Boo gets better each year and the zoo classes are great. Krissy Hamilton does a great job with the classes and I take my two younger grandchildren each month. The zoo is a lovely way to spend the day and I look forward to going there quite often. Thanks to the Hattiesburg Zoo for all you do!!!
