Keeler Tavern is not just for school children's education about the Battle of Ridgefield and the cannonball stuck in its wall; this is a working historical museum that serves to educate folks of all ages about life in 18th-century Connecticut. Take the guided tour if you can; otherwise, tour the museum on your own and be sure to walk through the garden, too. They are absolutely lovely! And stop in the gift store; merchandise has been carefully curated and is always fresh and interesting. MOST HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
One of the best historic places, with lovely grounds and an exquisite party house, overlooking a rose garden. Perfect for weddings. But also wonderful antique shows, American doll collection, children's summer programs, Christmas dinners--it is THE place to be a member if you live in/near Ridgefield.
While visiting White Plains, we took a drive up to Ridgefield. The fall foliage was beautiful & Keeler Tavern was so interesting. We had an awesome mother/daughter (Kendall) team who were our tour guides & they were knowledgable & completely delightful. I loved all the history & the cannonball hidden in the wall. And the Indian door was way cool!
A well-preserved 18th century building which was a family home, tavern and family home again to famous architect, Cass Gilbert, who added the Garden House and Charleston Garden.Having survived the Battle of Ridgefield on April 27, 1777, when British forces attacked when they discovered it was a hive of revolutionaries. A cannonball lodged in the building remains on show.Worth a look.
