Four of us used SunDog Outfitter this week for our Creeper downhill adventure. The staff is friendly, the bikes were fine and the shuttle driver was great. They also have a big selection of clothing & hiking & biking equipment. What more can you ask? Be sure to stop in MoJo's next door for a bagel & coffee.
Fun bunch of people who know bikes and get tourists careening down mountains in short order. For the price of a good pizza, one can get a shuttle to Whitetop and then ride all day on a bike of one's choice (coaster, mountain, or touring). Helmet is included. A bottle of water is even in the holder when the bike is given to you. I'm now a repeat customer.
My sister and I did the Creeper Trail on October 2. We rented bikes from Sundog Outfitters and were transported up to the mountain top. We stopped at the store and to view a few beautiful sites, and completed our ride in 2 1/2 hours. Staff were friendly and our driver told us stories of life in the area.
Had the best time just hanging out with the staff. Rented the shuttle to Whitetop Station....driver was great.
Great staff. Great bikes! The driver of the shuttle was very entertaining and informative. And best of all, she took the time to ask who got carsick and sat them accordingly.
Everyone was very nice, but the girl who waited on us didn't do that great of a job of determining the needed seat height & my friend had to do major seat adjustment. Handle bars weren't straight on either bike. I stopped 4 times to raise my seat back up as it wouldn't stay tight & kept getting lower as I went down the trail. The driver of the shuttle was very nice & helped fix my friend's seat after we got to the beginning of the trail. When returning & I commented about the seat constantly going down the response was that they get worn sometimes! Seems like they should be checked before they are rented. No indication that the helmets are cleaned between uses.
Besides having to stop every 10 minutes to put son's bike chain back on. After the first 20 minutes. I felt like we had to ride to try to get back to store. And not to enjoy the ride. We finally found some one who had a pair of pliers to get the nuts loose to pull back chain tight. It was about 11 miles down. He had a small bike so he actually had to peddle. After that we finally could get to riding the bike. I didn't realize we had to bring our own tools. When we got back I told the driver about our experience she went out to check the bike. Which it was already fixed. So nothing was done to make me want to come back to them. I would rather to bring my own bike and use them as a shuttle only. And we were never offered a helmet. I will try elsewhere next time.
It's a great place to find all of your hiking apparel plus Life is Good shirts. In the heart of a great hiking town and right near the trail and beside Subway.
We used only the shuttle service since we brought our own bikes so I can only comment on that and the friendliness of the people. We had reservations which I had to change a few days before due to the projected rain on my original day we were going to go. They were very nice and accommodating when making those changes. Their store has t shirts, hoodies, hats and most anything else you might need. They also have a few packaged snack bars and chilled bottled water. Even though we didn't rent their bikes, those that did their bikes appeared well taken care of. The driver was friendly and explained the length of ride up to the top and recommended anyone that had a tendency to nausea to sit in the front because of the very curvy ride. Would use them again.
This is our second visit to Sundog. We arrived on a busy Saturday without reservations. The staff was very helpful and were able to accommodate us. Clean bathrooms, well stocked supplies for you bike ride. There's even a restaurant next door if you didn't pack snacks. It's a 20-ish minute ride to the top of the trail. Virginia Creeper trail is a great ride, even for those who haven't been on a bike in years.
I used Sundog for my shuttle service on the VA Creeper Bike Trail, They were friendly, and on time, I highly recocmend this business for your shuttle and bike rental needs while in Damascus, VA
Two years ago we went with a group of 40+. this time we went with just our Grand daughter and daughter in law. They fitted everyone to their bike, answered all questions and were very nice and friendly. The shuttle driver was very nice and a very safe and careful driver.
Helpful with requests, these people obviously have this down pat. Make a reservation, select your bikes, and in our case a buggy to pull behind for our dog and show up 10 min befor you leave to ride up The mountain. Their van takes you and your gear to the top so you can have fun time coming back down . It's so easy, good for a wide age range and abilities.
This is a awesome little store. We run in here a lot to use thier bathrooms to change clothes before and after runs and they are always very welcoming. I will say this, we alway buy at least a bottle of water to support them and for allowing us to use their facilities. It is a must stop!
There are many shuttle services in Damacus. We chose this one because it was the first we saw as we entered town. Paid less than internet advertised rate, possibly because it was the off season. They moved up the normal shuttle time for us to accomodate our schedule. Our folding bikes were securely fastened to the trailer and handled very carefully. The driver was full of local knowledge of hiking trails, plants, animals, and the best place to spot the qwild ponies at Grayson Highlands State Park. Large secure parking lot for our car. Business is located right along side the trail. Would definately use them again.
