We have gone here for years and always have fun while stopping for the night. Casino does allow smoking which is kind of annoying when we are used to the clean air at the ones in Colorado. Crowd is usually low key and staff is great.
We always enjoy a few hours of casino play at Ameristar. They have some of the older games we love to play, and also some of the newest on the market. They have very helpful employees, who are comfortable enough to laugh and joke while at the same time giving you their attention. They have great hotel rooms that make you feel like you are basking in luxury! Worth your time, in fact Ameristar is an American necessity!
I like the big open main entrance area to Ameristar. Large enough to meet a group then branch off to any of several restaurants. There is a very nice gift shop that does sell Iowa State, University of Iowa and Nebraska merchandise. Hotel check-in is in this main area also. The casino area is down a hallway and ramp therefore out of the way for a family visit. A Kids Quest is in lower level if adults want some time to themselves. We have used Kids Quest and the kids enjoyed it. I don't like the scent that is put out through the vents. Open enough to wander down hallways to indoor pool and other 2 adjoining hotels. Good place to go in inclement weather with all the wandering spaces. Attached parking ramp also is convenient.
The Friday night Crab and Prime Rib Buffet at the Ameristar was excellent. Fortunately I arrived early, 5 PM, so I was seated right away. When I left at 7 PM, the line was very long and those 50+ folks had a long wait ahead of them. The crab flowed abundantly and all the food was fresh. They had fried chicken, baked chicken, BBQ, salmon, Prime Rib, different kinds of fish cooked several different ways, Mussels, huge bowls of shrimps, potatoes cooked 7 different kinds of ways, pasta station, pizza, and many more entrees. One thing I learned about all you can eat crab, don't take large amounts at once because it gets miserably cold. Go back and get more as many times as you need to. And this place keeps up the pace with 4 huge bins filled with hot crab legs. No lines to fill your plate. The restaurant environment was pleasant . Where I was seated I did not feel the pressure of 50 people outside waiting to eat. The food presentation at the buffet was well done. There were a few things on the Buffet I didn't care for but that stands to reason. Pizza, gravy were too salty, some of the catfish pieces the meat was too dark/skin threaded through.... I am a very selective diner. I pay good money when I dine out and expect food that tastes good and I left this Buffet happy. Some folks think this Buffet is pricey. I think $28.88 was pretty inexpensive considering you get all you can eat prime rib, crab legs, shrimp, salmon.....It is a bargain. The servers were friendly and efficient. Removed my plates before I came back with my next plate. The Valet was friendly as well. I will be back hoping for consistency in quality of dining and service, Heritage Buffet. lcampbell50 Omaha NE
This had three floors and the best mix of old and new machines. Beverage service was excellent and machines seemed to pay more often
we were there on new years eve about 5 pm was not very impressed I am in a wheel chair and your buffet is not very easy to get to but I did it some of the stations food was very picked over and some of the hot food was cold it will be a long time before I come back was not impressed !!!
we ate at the buffet sat evening for the last time was very hungry for a good prime rib buffet but was very disappointed it was by far the worst i have ever had,my wife had the same opinion.
The casino is very clean and the staff was really accommodating. The dealer Sandy at our roulette table was so much fun. It is nice to go to a casino where the the dealers and put bosses are not so serious. We had a blast. The waitstaff was spot on. Next time we will stay on site.
Casino was larger (much) than the other two in town and paid out a little better. More food choices and a better vibe throughout the property. These hotels are ridiculously priced for Council Bluffs Iowa. $150 Average???? Really? Do you want people to stay or not. Comfort Inn is very close and much less expensive. Do yourself a favor and avoid Horseshoe and Harrahs, they are not worth the trip.
Great variety of foods on the buffet, stir fry, salads, good roast beef and always fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Eggs benedict were good, lots of desserts, some in smaller portions so you can sample a couple. Not a fan of the ice cream, lots of air. Best to go early or late and service will be better.
We like the buffet at Ameristar. Friday night you can get Prime Rib and Crab legs and it is soooooo good! a little pricey but you will not be disappointed!
It was easy to locate with lots of parking. Staff was friendly. It was very crowded for a week night.
3d year in a row ive stayed at this place. I don't gamble often, but this place was nice enough. We were busy most of the time, but when were at the hotel there was plenty to do. The casino is small, but there are 3 craps tables so that was fun. It's on a boat. The restaurants are good and there is a good sports bar in there that gets packed for games. It's kind of old and dirty feeling and the security guards creeper me out, but other than that the casino was fun.
It was okay for half hour of entertainment. We actually had a lot more fun at the Bluffs Run Greyhound races. You can also take the children to the races and enjoy free soft drinks.
I was interested about the building of the Trans Con. Route.Pretty much skipped over it.Disappointing.
