Eagle Ridge is a great place for the less experienced rider. Their horses are slow and sure and you can feel confident putting young children on them. The ride is. through flat land that has ponds and pines. We have seen moose twice on our rides. The guides are helpful and personable.
Our family of 8 adults and 1 eight year old had a blast on this trail ride. Jarom was a great guide, funny, knowledgeable, safety conscience, informative, entertaining and so cute! They take the time to really fit you to the saddle. The ride is about 2 1/2 hours, so you really get your money's worth. The trail is easy and horses are well trained. The area is beautiful. For beginner riders and families this was the highlight of our visit to Island Park. There is a place to picnic and we did, in the shade. There were paddle boats and fishing, but it rained the day we were there. We hope to go back.
We were on vacation with our grandson, went fishing here and also went horseback riding. Our grandson caught his first trout, and our guide Xavier was great. Thanks for a great day, one we won't forget. Will go back when in the area! Highly recommend going here for a great day trip.
We are a family of 3 kids all under 6yo from Boston. Had a great time. Web site is accurate. My daughter who is a small 5yo was able to ride a horse by herself which she absolutely loved!
My family and I went on a trip to Yellowstone recently. Three of us decided to break off from the main group and find somewhere to go riding. It had been years for all of us, so we were excited. Yellowstone Horses/Eagle Ridge Ranch seemed to have the most competitive rates, so we called and were going to initially arrange an afternoon ride; however, that was full. The woman on the phone was very accommodating and arranged the same ride for the morning instead. When there was a cancellation in the afternoon she called back immediately and asked if we wanted to switch back, but decided to keep our morning slot.Since our party was only three people, we joined up with another three person group. After concise instructions from the guides, set off. What beautiful countryside! The area on and around the ranch is absolutely gorgeous. The horses were good tempered, though a boy in the other group was having a bit of trouble keeping his horse in line. Our guide was really good about circling back to help talk him through it and getting everyone back on track. Our guide was wonderful. One of the women in our party asked about huckleberries and if he knew where any grew. Not long after that we found ourselves going off the well beaten trails and heading down the mountain. We stopped in the middle of a patch of wild huckleberries and he hopped off his horse to pick some for all of us. Really above and beyond.Overall it was an amazing way to spend a few hours. Our family tried to tell us all the things we had missed while we went on our side excursion, but I honestly would not have traded the experience. What you get at Yellowstone Horses/Eagle Ridge Ranch isn't a run of the mill trail ride. The guides care about your personal experience and do their best to make sure you really enjoy yourself.
Our extended family of 22 spent a week enjoying the Yellowstone area. We marveled at the beauty of God's creation, but we must admit, hours in the car day after day didn't always feel marvelous to the kids. Eagle Ridge Ranch was the perfect break! The people there were very welcoming and allowed us to spend the whole day fishing, petting the horses, swimming and picnicking. The evening ride was gorgeous, even though it was cut a little short by the weather. But, the staff were professional and handled it wonderfully. It became a bonding experience and we all went home with an adventurous story to tell. Don't miss out on the delicious cowboy fare. The evening meal around the campfire was delicious. We were told that they made the best "scones" around, and it's true, but they seemed awfully close to what we in Louisiana call a beignet. Mmmmmmm! Finally, singing with the family around the campfire can't be beat. Don't miss getting to know the fine people at Eagle Ridge Ranch and take a break from the park. There's still plenty to marvel at here.
After being very disappointed by the Yellowstone Park stables and their unprofessional cancellation, Eagle Ridge Ranch SAVED the vacation for my daughter, who was looking forward to riding. An hour drive from West Yellowstone, the Eagle Ridge Ranch was a beautiful piece of the the Targhee National Forest. Arriving early, we were treated to FREE fishing and a boat to roam around a small lake and wet a line. After an hour, my daughter and I reeled a two pounder and had a wonderful time. After that, we headed to the stables. After a quick and professional intro to the horses and riding, we hoped aboard and had 2 + hours of beautiful riding and scenery! Kris, our guide, was pleasant patient and very hospitable. A very good and kind young man... Now the really good stuff : did not require helmets, which was a very pleasant experience, yet did not feel as though we were risking life and limb. Rode over everything, two streams, up several hills, down a bunch, got a real good test of basic horsemanship!! COULD TAKE PHOTOS FROM THE SADDLE!!! (Sadly, not a lot of other places let you do that..) ...Overall... Perfect! When we return, we will visit the Eagle Ridge Ranch! Well Done and Thank You!!!!
While in Island Park, Idaho, my children and I took a ride and had dinner with the wonderful family at Eagle Ridge Ranch. Having taken other rides with other programs in years past, I can say with certainty that this was BY FAR the most warm, welcoming, organized, and worth the money trip we have ever taken! Our guide, Chris from Rupert, Idaho was amazing. He was kind to my kids, engaging with all the rides, extremely safe, and had an outstanding sense of humor. My sons LOVED the rope-swing into the pond. We loved the dutch oven dinner and the all around service we received. This is the only horseback ranch I would ever recommend to friends and family, now that we have others to compare it to. We loved it. We traveled from Maine and we will travel back again!
On our visit to Yellowstone my husband booked our family a horseback riding trip. We didn't realize Eagle Ridge was so far from West Yellowstone where we were staying and actually considered changing the plans to a place closer, however we decided to keep the plans and boy was it worth the extra drive. The ranch was tucked back away from the main road, the guides were all very courteous, funny, and helpful, and the scenery was gorgeous! After our ride my daughters and I stuck around to watch the horses and feed them treats and my husband and son spent some time fishing in the creek. They have a clean bathroom, not an outhouse, which I was thankful for. It was one of the highlights of our vacation. We plan to go back next year.
This was my second time to Eagle Ridge Ranch. This time was better than the last time. The horses were great for the kids and the guides were knowledgeable. This is the "Real West Ride".The guides are not kids hired from the cities. They are real cowboys--born and raised to work with horses. Besides, they are really good-looking which helps the young single girls. The guides were smart, kind and knowledgeable. You could tell they knew what they were doing. I was amazed that they had young kids riding by the end of the ride. The scenery was beautiful and off the beaten track. we stayed for the dinner which was a real treat. The scones were terrific and I ate at least 8. The entire afternoon was just relaxing and wonderful. I felt pampered and entertained. I will go back again.
Yellowstone Horses is run out of Eagle Ridge Ranch. The Ranch rents cabins and Yellowstone rents horses. We were staying on the Ranch (awesome) and went horseback riding. The young guys were great, friendly, patient, and not your usual sullen teens. It was my daughter's first time on a horse and she was nervous/excited. The ride was guided and definitely for beginners but still enjoyable. Great memories.
Eagle Ridge is about 30 minutes outside of the west entrance to Yellowstone. They rent cabins. The horseback riding is a separate company. The town of West Yellowstone is rough around the edges and a Super 8 was asking $300. It was a little hard to find (saw a moose on the way) but followed the road signs instead of GPS. Staff was kind and sincere, the cabin was clean, and the horseback riding was fun as well. It was worth the drive. The cabin had a kitchen and a hot tub on the front deck. The lake they advertise is dinky but we tried the rope swing and had a blast anyway. The price was outstanding and I don't have a single complaint. We enjoyed it more than the $300 a night room in Jackson, Wyoming the night before and would highly recommend it. Big family? They have one large unit they call "the Lodge" otherwise you're looking at groups of three/four tops.
We booked over the phone for a trail ride and was very unsure of what kind of experience we were going to get.....and to our surprise it was amazing!! They were wonderful ranch hands that took good care of us, my daughter did scream and cry because the horse would trot to catch up and it would scare her everytime....but they were good at stopping and coming back to calm her down and to talk to her. We booked us a a cabin to come back in September to stay in one of their cabins :)
The place is a ways off from Yellowstone/Grand Teton National Parks but thoroughly enjoyable. We were a bit concerned to begin with but made the reservations and drove there. It was a great ride driving through open Idaho farms and fields. We got independent horses for all - they were helpful and chose appropriate horses for each of us. There was a quick intro on how to control and ride the horses - it was our first ride. The ride was scary at first but we quickly got the hang of it. The speed is slow so quite manageable. The kids loved it as well. They don't have a lot of facilities so carry your water or snacks, as appropriate.
FABULOUS EXPERIENCE! I called Susan and made reservations for three (the kids & me) for the afternoon ride. I had to re-schedule for the 4pm ride (the husband and his uncle took the boy fly-fishing on the Madison), and then I had to cancel completely (the girl caught a stomache bug), and then I had to re-book for the 4pm ride for the boy and me (the husband stayed with the girl and her stomache bug friends). HOLY COW, was Susan a kind and patient woman!! The boy (9 years old) and I took the 4pm evening ride with only six other guests, which happened to be returning customers from the day before. Our guide was very patient and caring towards my son, who has never ridden before. Also, our guide didn't just hang out with certain riders, he gave everyone equal amounts of attention and would let others lead and decide where our ride went. We saw some of the most beautiful scenery and went through streams and meadows. I felt like a VonTrapp in Austria and wanted to break out singing, "The Hills are Alive With Music!" There is a pond/lake with hundreds of tadpoles and pollywogs (I am not kidding!), canoes and paddleboats, and a huge rope swing. Which is free to use when you purchase a horseback ride. You can either come early before your ride to swim, boat, catch frogs or you can do those things after your ride. There is bottle water for sale for only $1 and they have complimentary little bags, which hang from your saddle horn, to put your drink or camera in. The boy had the best time ever! Now, on to the serious stuff. There were four ranch hands around and each one was cuter than the previous one! I thought I was in an episode of the Twilight Zone! One welcomed my son & me, another one ran my credit card, another one rounded up the guests to get ready for the ride, and then another one was our guide! There must be something in the water at the Eagle Ridge Ranch -and it's not the frogs!! I would definitely come back and schedule another horseback riding trip due to Susan's hospitality, the activities available, the experienced and patient guides, and the beautiful scenery!
