Have visited Plattsburgh for 30 years and don't remember ever coming to this part. however, my daughter has been here. She loved it. Drove around the park briefly while visiting over Christmas. Can't wait to return in the summer.
On beautiful Lake Champlain overlooking VT shore and site of Battle of Plattsburgh historical area. Great natural wildlife area with campsites and day use area. Long sandy beach with canoeing/kayaking, windsurfing, fishing areas as well. area closes for season but still open for people to enjoy without the frills. Bring binoculars to see heron nesting sites, osprey nests close to the road, eagles fishing, and other small creatures. Great walking areas.
As an added bonus for staying at the Point Au Roche Lodge, one can walk into the park and hike the many trails in the Park. The staffed Nature Center offers a variety of programs open to the public all year. The nature Center offers maps of the trails that can take you through the woods or out to one of the points for a beautiful and relaxing view of Lake Champlain. "The park's trails, including nature, hiking and biking trails, wind through interesting habitats, from forest to marsh to shoreline. The trails are in use all year for school programs, nature hikes and cross-country skiing. The park also provides access for ice fishing". To view the Adirondack Mountains to the west and the Green Mountains of Vermont to east from one of the points on a clear day is nothing less than spectacular. The park's large day-use area has a protected, sandy beach, picnic facilities and concession stand. The official entrance does charge a nominal to enter with your vehicle.
We visited that park and foud it very nice with lots of path to trek. The lake view is near fantastic. It's nice and quiet.
Either way you'll love it. Big sandy beach! Warm water. Shallow. Great family time. Bring a friend you won't forget it anytime soon!
I have been to this park many times and I love it. The water is beautiful, the trials are beautiful, the views are beautiful, and you can't beat the price to take the family for the entire day. Positive and peaceful atmosphere. Most places you go to lifeguards act like police or silent robots, but at this park they always are friendly, happy, and they whistle while they work. The beach is a bit rocky, and the showers don't work, but other than that this place is ideal. Great place that is always positive and relaxing.
Filthy bathrooms and all but one stall had toilet paper. The showers didn't work and the floors were soaking wet. The playground was small and had water on the slides. They don't have trash cans anywhere on the property. They have no smoking signs although clearly it's not enforced. There was an awful smell near the lifeguard post. And the swimming area doesn't get very deep. This was our first and last time here. If I hadn't gotten free entry for an event I would of wanted a refund.
Too many Quebecers but a nice small beach for any small group, couple, or single individual. Nice views, clean water, and plenty of picnic table and parking make for a nice place.
The park has an extensive network of trails for walking or hiking. Directions are only fair, but you can't get too lost. The view of the Lake is excellent and varied. Some trails are walkers only, others open to cyclists and equestrians.
I live nearby and always bring first time visitors to this park. Flat easy marked trails. One of the ttrails has an amazing view of Lake Champlain and across the way Vermont. It's also free.
Excellent spot for some flat trail running and bird watching. Several trail options offer lakeside running with great views across the lake.
This beach has such nice scenery all year round. The woods bordered area is quite pleasing around the beach. Very nice location.
Love Point Au Roche! Especially on clear days. Great place to walk to the dog. Or walk the human! The trail is a nice flat one, and does not require much effort. The back part of the trail goes along the shores of Lake Champlain, and the woods are very well maintained. Please clean up after yourselves, do not litter, and leave this environment exactly how you found it.
This is a nice easy hike that packs a real punch when it comes to natural beauty. Everything from the shaley shore on which you stand to the mountains across the lake is beautiful. We saw very few other people, and the park is dog friendly. The loop around the point is about an hour and a half if you are taking your time.
Easy trails and great lake views combined with few visitors and convenient parking make this a great place for an easy hike with little elevation change. This weekend was perfect, hiked a trail and saw only one other group. Sat on a point with great views and not a soul in sight.
