The best part about this course and the accommodations is the welcome. The entire staff could not be nicer. The original idea of issuing guests a golf cart for the duration of their stay is certainly engaging and fun. Of course, we were fortunate to have sunny, perfect weather for the entire four days of our stay. I can't imagine what it would feel like having to commute from the parking lot to the cabin had it been in the 30s or so and rainy ! The "suite" we stayed in was actually a split cabin. It was very "cabinesque." On the positive side it was right on the edge of the fairway, had a cute hammock, overall nice welcoming look. On the other hand it really seemed not too clean. The additional sheets for the fold out couch seemed to have been used before. When we returned to the room after the first afternoon of golf the room seemed not to be have been addressed at all. The blankets were strewn over the bed and the pull out couch was as we had left it. Both tissues and tp were just about gone and not replaced. So why would I give it a four? The course is in decent shape. They are working on it. They are exceptionally nice. The views are nice on the front nine and the price is certainly fair for all that. I would say calling this a resort is historical and perhaps aspirational but calling it a resort is not really a reality now or any time soon.
Bluff Point is a beautiful and very reasonably priced golf getaway. The setting on Lake Champlain is lovely and the course historic and challenging. The pro shop staff is delightful and most helpful. We enjoyed most of our rounds of golf and the friendly hospitality of local and visiting golfers. The golf could be improved by having a Marshall monitor the course and keep play moving along. Our first day's round was a bit frustrating with the foursome ahead of us displaying very poor etiquette and tossing balls over the water in their frustration and taking extra shots. It took us 4 hours to play 12 holes. The next day we played 18 holes in 3 1/2 hrs! Mostly everyone is courteous and enjoying the golf, scenery and weather. Overall we had a great time. It was a unique experience to stay in a suite nestled in the trees on the fourth fairway. The price is right for the accommodations and golf package but we would happily pay a bit extra for a hair dryer and small coffee pot. The Bluff Point Golf Course layout, location and history are all positives but the name "resort" is somewhat misleading. The package price is very fair for the golf and cabin like accommodations.
This resort is a great deal off-season!Okay let's start with our golf experience: Located on beautiful Lake Champlain the course is challenging but fair. We thought the course was in great shape and views of the lake are spectacular. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. We happened to catch a couple of days of rather cool weather. The golf carts do not have wind shields so it got pretty cool sometimes. As for the lodging: On our three week tour through the Adirondack Mountains and Canada, we stayed two nights at this Plattsburgh golf resort. We spent one night in a suite, one in a cottage. The cottage was twice as nice. Opt for this, if available. The suites are comfortable, clean, spacious, nicely decorated and have a microwave and mini refrigerator. There are no coffee makers in the suites but coffee is available from the pro shop at two dollars a cup. Wi-Fi is available in the pro shop, not in the rooms. However, the owner, Paul Dame, an extremely accommodating, responsive and helpful young man, told us that they are working on providing this amenity. He is very proud of this historic property and works diligently to maintain and improve it.There is no restaurant on site. Unless you bring your own food, you will have to drive about 3 miles for breakfast. The place we chose was called It's All Good. A bit of an overstatement since our breakfast was just fair. However, for dinner, Anthony's is a great choice! BTW, bring a flashlight! You'll need it when for when you return from dinner after dark. We had a great time and would definitely return to this resort next Fall but we would come better prepared. .
Once again we had a fabulous time at Bluff Point. You can not beat the package deal for a golf get away both during the week and weekend.Staff is very pleasant, welcoming, and flexible. Cabins are very homey. Picnic table, area for a fire and charcoal grill outside make it great for outside fun after golf. course was in great condition. We will certainly be back next year.
The views and the greens where great. The weekday price is great and the weekend rate is ok. Watch out for hole 8. do not try and go for it, the water jumps up and grabs golf balls.
I play there last weekend on saturday, it was a rainy day, i was with 2 other persons. It was also my first time playing golf in plattsburgh, very nice course, well mainted and good price, i will go back next year..
We just got back from a mid week break at Bluff Point. The golf course was well groomed and a challenge to play. The staff all made us feel so welcome. The accommodations were clean and cozy. We really got so much for what we paid and will certainly be returning.
Just got back from this amazing resort. I say resort because it was all that I expected plus more. My fiancée surprised me with this overnight booking after a stressful night shift. Something I really needed. The gentleman at the front desk was more than welcoming and friendly. Check in was a breeze. Got to our cottage and was amazed at how rustic and clean it was. It felt so comfortable. Booking tee off times were so simple and easy. The entire staff was friendly and always approachable. The course....totally fun, yet challenging. The view was amazing throughout the whole course. Breathtaking would be the right word!! Couldn't have been any better. Never have I ever played 54 holes within 24 hrs!!! It was totally worth it. Will definitely try n get back there one more time before the season ends. A must try for anyone looking for a spectacular, relaxing and fun 18 holes, or 36 if you decide to stay overnight!! Thanks again, to all the staff for making it a wonderful stay n play
We always return each year to Bluff Point to play a pair of rounds, the replay is only $10, the course is challenging and the view of Lake Champlain helps to enjoy the time spend there. I appreciate the hole #5, a par 3 of 160 yards along the lake, a little bit windy but very challenging.
I recently enjoyed a 2 day golf mini-vacation at Bluff Point Golf course. Several holes have spectacular views of Lake Champlain. We enjoyed the overnight accommodations which are clean, comfortable rustic cabins right along the fairway.
I just came back from 2 days at Bluff Point Golf Resort in Plattsburgh. They were 2 memorable days. The course was in excellent condition, the staff welcoming and courteous. The quality and the decor are stunning. Manicured grounds in a beautiful setting. I play regularly in Florida and Bluff Point can easily rank among the top 10 courses. An experiment to renew for many years to come. Next year we will stay onsite in a cottage. Congratulations to the owner.
I've been to Bluff Point Golf Course at least once in each of the last 10 years and with each it gets more attractive than ever. I love introducing new golfers to the course. Paul Dane and his staff are working hard to keep everything in tip top shape. The improvements over the years are wonderful and most impressive this season. They work very hard to accommodate every need of the group. I have arrived with myself and significant other and stayed in a suite which was perfect for our needs and I have brought up a group of as many as 24 EWGA golfers and reserved all the cottages and a couple of suites. We have all agreed the setting is great and the accommodations are comfortable. It's about a 2 1/2 hr drive from the Albany area, but please don't let that stop you from enjoying a great time along the beautiful lake front.
Played a round on this course on June 19-2014 with a buddy. This is the 4th time I've played here but the first time in warm sunny weather. The course was in excellent shape and we enjoyed our day thouroughly. I reccomend this course to anyone looking for an affordable round in a beautiful seting.
Having been a frequent visitor to Bluff Point for several years just wanted to compliment Paul and his team. The overnight stays, with two days of golf, is a great way to spend time with friends enjoying a scenic, but challenging course, and evenings around a BBQ and campfire. Our first visit this year, in early June, was rewarded with the usual friendly welcome and check in. It was seen immediately the continued upkeep and improvements that had been made with the new hole markers and ball washing stations. Paul, as always, was there to be of assistance whenever necessary. Congratulations, we will be seeing you several times again this year.France and Cal Blunden.
So, it's long over due that I post this review and I guess I was hesitant because I don't really want too many people to know about how great this place is! I love the location on beautiful Lake Champlain, I love the challenges of the course, I love the cosy suites in the rustic cabins, the enjoyment of sitting outdoors with a fire burning and the BBQ going for that night's supper. Of course, if you prefer you can heat up a meal in the microwave, or go out to dinner as there are a number of places to eat in nearby Plattsburg. Frankly I was surprised to read any negative reviews about the resort, and especially about the staff--it's a bunch of baloney--they are great people and very helpful as is the owner Paul Dame who does his best to resolve all issues and in a timely manner. Chalk it up to unreasonable people with expectations that might be better reserved for high end fancy establishments--this is not a 300 dollar per night hotel, nor is it a snobbish spa located in Beverly Hills. This is a real place for real people and very affordable! If you have any clue about running and/or owning a business, especially a golf course, you'd know and understand how difficult a task it is, and you'd bite you tongue before complaining about things like a wet course after it rained--you're kidding right?! Paul and his crew are constantly making improvements but they cannot control the weather, nor is it reasonable to expect a refund or a rain-check if it rains! Honestly, that's not how it works and that information is clearly spelled out on the web site, as is the cancellation policy, which is very reasonable. I first found out about this gem in 2009 and have been back there numerous times and will be there again as my last overnighter there this year (2014 June 2-3rd), was as enjoyable as ever. So please, if you would rather believe the negative reviews about this place, do us all a favour and stay away. That way I'll always have an easier time booking there again!
