Course is kept in excellence condition and is ranked #5 by Golf Week Magazine as well as given a 4 Star Rating by Golf Digest Magazine 2000-2001, 2002-2003 and 2008-2009
The course may be challenging, it may be inexpensive, but they need to get a weedeater and gas up the mower. The areas they have allowed to go wild look horrible. Long grass is one thing. It is full of weeds, thickets etc. Certainly not friendly for walking through to find your lost ball. Just looks run down and horrible.
Locust Hill has a great layout an is kept in good condition. The pace of play is usually fast and the price cannot be beat!
Great course. Friendly layouts. Housing built around course. Some water challenges. Putting surfaces are always kept like a major event-- quick ! Clubhouse is small but friendly. Can easily walk the course. Call before you go in the summer due to occasional tournament. Bring and use Off or Deet product--avoid the gnats and ticks!!
Not really...Locuat Hill offers a variety of Tees to suit your ability level. The course is challenging and fun to play. Bring your A game or just bring a friend and enjoy a wonderful day of golf.
Good conditions, when I played. The course has a very interesting layout. Lots of houses close. Last few holes of the front and back nines are really nice. Be careful when trying to play during the evening, they have a lot of member tournaments.
Although not a member, I have been playing at this golf course off and on over last 8 years. It is one of the area's nicest and challenging courses. Overall, the price is pretty descent and the pace of play is usually pretty good. The fairways are always cut nicely and greens are consistent. The course does not feature a fancy clubhouse, but rather a simple pro shop and concession area. On a weekend, a tee time is suggested. If you are in the area for a little get away and you want to play golf, Locust Hill would be a course worth playing.
Hubby likes this place. Nice course, nice summer league... he's there every week from April - Sept.
Just wanted to get out and it was convenient to our stay. Just a simple local muni. Played with 2 friendly locals and had a good day.Not the best conditions when I was there.
I was a charter member of Locust Hill in 1991. Stopped played for 10 years and recently started again. Staff at locust Hill acted as if we were bothering them to sign in and play. Everyone standing around and talking as if there was nothing else to do. Course has really slipped since owned by the Burches and Steeleys. Will not return
If your ball is attracted to water and sand, this is a frustratiing course. It is billed as one of the better courses in the area along with it's sister course, Cress Creek Country Club in nearby Shepherdstown ( aquite challenging and expensive course as well.) It's a bit over-priced relative to other courses in the area. It is designed for golfers with better skills than the group I golfed with. Accuracy is important. If your "A" game is more like a "C"... you may be disappointted; but then again, a bad day on the links is better than a good day at work.
Just wanted to make the correction on geography. They are in two completely different parts of the state. Charles Town is in the Eastern Panhandle, between MD and VA.
