Love to take walks through campus. Lovely brick buildings and nice sourroundings nearby. Grandchildren who live in Northampton get boost from using Smith athletic facilities and other things.
I moved to Northampton as an Ada Comstock (non-traditional age) student at Smith in the Fall of 2011. I loved nearly everything about being a student, and now an alum. There are endless free lectures, readings, concerts, theatre performances throughout the year.
We visited the Smith College Tuesday November 11, 2014 for Fall Preview. College visits, especially prestigeous private universities, are like a sport for our family. We have toured Harvard, Yale, Wellesley, Vanderbuilt, Emory, University of Chicago, Loyola of Chicago, New York University and more. This was the best college tour we have been to. We loved the campus. The students are smart, strong, unique. We see why this is a world-class university and on-par with the Ivies (higher ranked than many of them).Bravo Smith! Keep working your formula. You have something special and the women you graduate WILL change the world.
My daughter attends Smith College. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful college. The housing is wonderful! The food is excellent. Lamont House is homey and has the most beautiful dining room.
If you're in the area, you obviously don't want to miss a visit to this beautiful campus, worth exploring for an hour or so. Don't miss view from little bridge over the Mill River and Paradise Pond. ...Great library, too.
The hall and attached covered patio area, where I attended the wedding of a relative, was a picturesque spot. The dining area was upstairs (indoors), reception/dancing downstairs. The ceremony was held outside on the covered patio (as was a cocktail hour post photos, pre dinner) overlooking the river and tree lined grounds. This spot would be AMAZING in the fall when leaves are changing because it was even amazing in the early summer!
We enjoyed strolling through this historic campus during our visit to the town of Northhampton and its many sights.
The history and vibrancy of this campus is amazing. Such a beautiful walk, and the campus café is pretty awesome too!
Visual highlights include Paradise Pond and the Botanical Gardens, flowering plants and bushes, outdoor sculpture, and the Geosciences Rock Garden. One of the original Seven Sisters colleges, Smith continues to educate, challenge, and nurture strong, independent women from around the world.
My daughter grew up in a small town in Maine. The Smith experience has fostered the opportunity for her to build a foundation well grounded and confident, without being conceited; as an intelligent young woman with much to offer, first and foremost. I can not say enough about what this experience has meant to her, and will continue to mean to her over the course of her lifetime. There is much to be said in favor of the separateness in educating young women as well as men. As my daughter said during her first weeks at Smith, if I don't have time to shower, put on make-up, do my hair, etc. I don't feel the pressure to put what isn't most important first. This allows women to find a balance at an age in development when it is most essential, and makes a lasting impression upon their lives. How wonderful is that for the future of our human race? The campus is gorgeous, and well laid out. The added plus of being an arboretum is just another point in Smith's favor. The staff are among the top in their profession, exhibiting high standards as well as a caring attitude toward our daughters as human beings. I can not say enough about what the Smith experience has been to my daughter, as well as our family. Thank You!
Smith College has a beautiful campus. Paradise Pond is a site to see with the athletic fields in the distance, row boats and paddle boards out on the water, the Presidents's House on the hill and the Japanese gardens off to the side. There is a great vibe on the campus. Lots of happy, smiling people walking around.
I long had a fantasy about attending Smith so it was great to finally make it here with my college bound daughter. When we heard that Maya Lin would be speaking during our visit, we happily waited in line to hear her. The experience gave us a feel for what both campus and community life was like - everyone seemed engaged in intellectual exploration.
Old buildings ... if you didn't or won't go - well, it's only OK.Decent walk, very nice people ...When on campus GO TO THE GREENHOUSE (horticulture center) - totally worth it
My favorite spots on the Smith campus are the botanical garden and the art museum, both tranquil and inspiring. These spots never seem crowded, and visitors are most welcome. The little shop in the museum has creative gifts at reasonable prices.
The campus is so totally beautiful. We took the tour and the staff was endearing and helpful. Nice down home staff and students. I felt a nice balance between the traditional and a need to meet the modern world. Nice going Smith.
