Bennington is a great city to just walk around in. You'll run across fascinating, historical structures at every turn, it seems like. This church is so picturesque, inside and out.
Extremely beautiful tucked in the Vermont hillside. Wonderful docents. Steeped in beauty and history.
You might feel a case of déjà vu as this is one of the most photographed churches in Vermont .It is fascinating to look back into our nations history and visit this small church where so much has happened. Both the church and cemetery are well worth a visit.
Have to stop here. Robert Frost was buried in the cemetery next to the church. The inside of the church is gorgeous!!
The church must be the most beautiful in New England. Its on a beautiful and historic street which is worth a walk along without the church. When we visited a wedding had just taken place so it looked wonderful with the flowers and candles at the end of each pew. Don't miss this gem.
Beautiful older church with unbelievable wood work. Walk upstairs to see more of the church. As you walk into the the church, on the left side (upstairs) you can see wood carvings from the boys as they sat on the left and girls on the right side.
Don’t miss stopping at this gorgeous church. It’s a beautiful white picturesque church with a lovely fence and historic grave markers. The volunteers inside the church are most informative and exceptionally friendly. They shared so much historic knowledge and painted a visual picture that you could actually, in your mind, go back in time and imagine the scene. Weddings and Christmas services sound like a storybook scene. Would love to visit at Christmastime. Our visit in the fall brought with it breathtaking autumn colors that just added to the beauty. A walk through the graveyard brings another step back in time with dates on the headstones from the 1700’s. Robert Frost’s grave is located here and is a brief walk back through the cemetery. Definitely worth a visit. There is no fee but donations are accepted.
Robert Frost's family gravesite is a must for poetry lovers. The grounds were beautiful in fall. I enjoyed walking in the woods behind the church as well, where the grounds abut the Bennington Museum grounds. The inside of the church is worth seeing if it's open, as the chapel is laid out in boxes, the sanctuary is flooded with daylight, and there is a lovely gallery above.
You don't have to love the work of Robert Frost to value a visit to this church. It is beautiful and well looked-after and the volunteers are thoughtful and well-informed. The church has an interesting history that reflects the complex and fascinating history of New England and its religious, social and political development. Both Robert and his wife Elinor are buried here and it seems a perfect resting place place for both of them. We're very glad to have been there.
Travel to old Bennington to First Congregational Church-beautiful white church on shaded street with white fence and graveyard. Once you enter the cemetery next to the church, signs will direct you to Robert Frost's grave down the hill to the right. It's a beautiful setting. The gravestones are flat rectangular stones next to small birch trees.
Beautiful old church with an old cemetery. Lots of very old headstones and the site of the Robert Frost family plot. Church was closed but we were able to wander around and it was a very peaceful place and a nice setting in a historic neighborhood. Worth a visit.
The tree lined street with fall leaves. The beautifully maintained church and homes of Old Bennington. Robert Frost's grave. It's like stepping back in time. Great photo opportunities for the photo hobbyist. Do not miss.
We came by on a beautiful sunny day. The Church stood out as a great example of New England architecture.
A very beautiful building, inside and out. It looked even more beautiful surrounded by autumn colours. The inside is typical of New England with its white/grey colour scheme. Robert Frost's grave behind the church is also worth a visit.
This is a beautiful 250 year old church. Wonderful white interior. There was a lady inside who told us a lot of interesting details about the church. Great for pictures too. Wished we were there for a service.
