henrty county museum & cultural arts center

I live in Clinton. This Museum is not in Clinton, Oklahoma. It is actually the Henry County Museum in Clinton, Missouri.

This is a really nice local museum. We just happened upon it while on a day trip to Clinton. It consists of several buildings/houses. The main part of the museum has displays of an old bank, general store, drug store, barber shop and class room. Be sure to check out the 1907 International Harvester truck.The building attached to it is an Anheuser-Busch building built in 1886. It was used as a distribution center. Upstairs is the Military room with displays dating back to the Civil War. You will find out why the Courthouse does not have a clock tower. You will find out that Clinton was the Capital of the World.Take the time to go across the street and check out the 1856 dog trot log house.Across the street from it is the Dorman House. The house was a first in Clinton. It also played a role in a local Civil War skirmish. Note how thick the walls are. It is on the National Registry.The museum is currently working a one room school that is next to the dog trot house.The DeLozier Building is also part of the museum complex. It was built in 1887 as a bank.The ladies at the museum were friendly and informative. We found the museum very interesting. If you're in Clinton or close by, take some time and go visit. A lot of history and fun.
